Convert AVIF to JPG online

AVIF is what Chrome and Android increasingly save, and what a lot of older software still refuses to open. Turn one into an ordinary JPG on your own device.

What changes when AVIF becomes JPG

JPG opens in practically everything, and that compatibility costs you a few of the things AVIF was designed to keep.

Transparency becomes a solid colour

AVIF can store transparent areas and JPG cannot, so anything see-through is filled with the background colour you choose before exporting.

Expect a noticeably larger file

AVIF compresses far harder than JPG. The same picture often lands several times bigger, even at a high quality setting.

A fresh file, with no copied metadata

The new file is written from the decoded pixels, so EXIF, XMP, and any location data stored in the AVIF are not carried across.

Conversion questions

AVIF to JPG converter FAQ

Why will nothing open my AVIF file?

AVIF is recent. Browsers handle it well, but many desktop editors, older phones, print services, and upload forms still reject it. Converting to JPG sidesteps that entirely.

Does converting to JPG lose quality?

A little. JPG is lossy, so re-encoding costs some detail. At a quality setting of 90 or above the difference is hard to see on a photograph.

What happens to an HDR AVIF?

It is mapped down to ordinary 8-bit colour, because JPG cannot store high dynamic range. Very bright highlights may shift slightly.

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is decoded, converted, previewed, and downloaded entirely inside your browser.
