Removes ID3v2 and ID3v1 metadata only. It does not promise removal of APE, Lyrics3, embedded watermarks, or metadata inside other audio formats.

Supported cleanup

The MP3 metadata this tool removes

The tool trims defined ID3 containers from the audio file. It does not decode or recompress the audio stream.

ID3v2 frames

Removes leading tags that can hold title, artist, album, comments, lyrics, identifiers, and other fields.

Embedded album art

Album artwork stored in ID3v2 picture frames is removed with the surrounding ID3v2 tag.

ID3v1 tags

Removes the older fixed-size title, artist, album, year, comment, and genre tag at the file end.

No audio re-encoding

Copies the MPEG audio payload byte-for-byte between the supported tag regions.

Know the boundary

Metadata removal is not document redaction

MP3 files can use tag systems beyond ID3. This first release deliberately supports the two common ID3 locations it can remove and verify reliably.

This tool does not remove

  • APE or Lyrics3 tag blocks
  • Audio watermarks or spoken identifying information
  • Metadata inside M4A, FLAC, WAV, OGG, or other formats
  • Audio editing, conversion, loudness changes, or recompression

Where it helps

When MP3 tags reveal more than the audio

ID3 tags can carry names, comments, identifiers, lyrics, dates, and artwork even when none of that information is audible.

Publishing podcasts or voice notes

Remove supported ID3 tags before posting interviews, recordings, samples, or voice notes to a public feed or download page.

Removing embedded album art

Strip artwork stored inside ID3v2 picture frames when the image is private, outdated, oversized, or inappropriate for the shared copy.

Creating a tag-free delivery copy

Preserve the MPEG audio bytes while removing leading ID3v2 and trailing ID3v1 containers from the version you plan to distribute.

Common questions

Questions about removing MP3 metadata

The MP3 tool removes defined tag regions without decoding the audio. These answers explain the exact limits.

Will removing MP3 metadata reduce audio quality?

No re-encoding is performed. The tool copies the MPEG audio payload byte-for-byte between the supported tag regions, so it does not intentionally change the sound data.

Which MP3 tags and album art are removed?

The tool removes leading ID3v2 tags and trailing ID3v1 tags. Album art stored inside an ID3v2 picture frame is removed with the containing ID3v2 tag.

Does it remove APE, Lyrics3, watermarks, or metadata from other audio formats?

No. APE, Lyrics3, audio watermarks, spoken identifying information, and metadata in M4A, FLAC, WAV, OGG, or other formats remain outside this release.
